County Commissioner, Linn County, Position 1

Theodore (TJ) Hiner JR

Democrat

Occupation: Wildand Firefighter

Occupational Background: 31 years wildland firefighter

Educational Background: high school graduate fire sciences degree

Prior Governmental Experience: none

Service, accountability, and hard work have guided my life and career. I was born and raised in Albany, Oregon, and have deep roots in Linn County. My family and I have proudly called Sweet Home home for the past 18 years.

Since 1995, I have worked as a wildland firefighter protecting our forests, natural resources, and communities. Wildfire response demands discipline, teamwork, and steady leadership under pressure. In addition to serving on the fireline, I have worked as a wildland firefighting instructor, helping train and prepare the next generation of firefighters while emphasizing safety, professionalism, and accountability in a high-risk profession.

I currently serve on the Board of Directors for the Organization of Fire Contractors and Associates, working with others in the industry to support the contractors, crews, and small businesses that play a critical role in wildfire response and land management. Through this work, I have supported efforts to improve communication, encourage modernization, and promote transparency and accountability within the wildland fire community.

Community service has always been important to me. I previously served as Vice President of the Sugar City Gleaners in Sweet Home, helping provide food and assistance to families and individuals in need. That experience strengthened my belief that strong communities are built when neighbors step forward to help one another.

I have been married for 24 years and am a proud father of four children, all of whom work in the wildland firefighting industry.

I am seeking this position because I believe public offices should operate with transparency, modernization, and clear communication with the public. I want to bring the same practical, common-sense leadership I have used throughout my career to ensure this office serves our community openly, efficiently, and responsibly while protecting taxpayers and using public resources wisely.

Protecting our community, serving with integrity, and working for you.
